There are many, many, many, many... did I say many?... ways of matching tubes. Each piece of equipment MAY require a different type of matching, if any.For a good start - contact the maker of your products and ask them this question. They may tell you what EXACTLY is required for their product. It is not uncommon for someone to buy "matched" tubes from a tube supplier only to find later that a particular product requires some other form of tube sorting/matching.
Equipment? You can get as fancy as you wish... but in many cases you can use the product itself as the matching fixture, often with the best results. However, all this does require if not PhD, then at least good grasp on several aspects of tube design/operation.
