Actually, the DAC 4 Sig uses a different valve than the DAC 4. You *can* swap out your E182CCs for 7044s, however; in fact, the DAC 4 Sig I have on loan from Audio Note came with 7044s. The 7044 is a great tube but microphonic as hell. I was surprised that Audio Note could make a viable commercial product using 7044s, and Peter Qvortrup said it's only because he has a warehouse full of 7044s that he is able to select out quiet ones.My preamp, the Emotive Audio Sira can run a 5687, 6900, or 7044, and while the maker also loves the 7044, he doesn't provide the Sira with one because it is so microphonic. The bread and butter 7044 seems to be the GE, but I think the Raytheon CK7044 is worth hearing, and one to avoid is the Sylvania 7044 with modern yellow printing. Peter at Audio Note says that the Philips E182CC SQ with gold pins is his favorite, and is currently buying these up at great expense.
I see you've got a whole mess of cables listed on your System page--could you comment on the different digital cables and interconnects you've tried with the DAC 4 Sig?
