It really depends on the sensitivity of your system and your tolerance for noise. Depending on the particular Koetsu you had in mind, I believe most had an output of around .5mv. The Lyras* are a little lower, with the possible exception of the Helikon which I am not familar with. I doubt you would be happy with cartridges with this low an output into the SP8; the noise would definitely intrude, IMHO.
I have two friends who are using Well Tempered turntables with higher output Benz cartridges, the H2O and the new Ruby H. The Ruby is probably outside your price range but the Benz replacement for the H2O (sorry, can't remember model number) would probably be ideal. There output is in the 2mv range which I would recommend as the lowest you should consider with the SP8.*the Lyras and the Koetsus do not sound at all alike, in my experience. The former do tend to the clinical whereas the Koetsus are somewhat more lush (musical) in character. The Benzes don't sound like either but probably more like the Koetsus than the Lyras.
