The main reason replaced the EL34s is because I saw a reference to "glowing carrot-like" EL34s on Border Patrols site that I myself had experienced more than several nights after listening to a lot of Coltraine, etc.I think the amp sounds quite good as is, but would rather not fry out the interior in the process of listening, you know?
I paid $400 for the AI, and the sound combined with the amount of inputs plus phono was kinda' satisfying, I must admit.
Like I said, I could ditch the thing and get the ASL stuff, but then I'd be ditching the phono and tape (or least have it out of commission for some time).
Who knows. I do however, appreciated the input I'm getting - and do thank you, Joe, for such comprehensive input - it's nice to see folks taking the time to respond.
Have a good one,
Mark
