Thanks to the many of you who gave me advice on and of the list!
I am hoping the op transformer is ok and the problem may well be
due to the galvanic coupling of the EF86 scren grid and EL84
cathode not having the corrcet dc feedback. It may be that on of
the 50 uf 50V black gate coupling caps is at fault. Simply the
fact that one amp is very stable even with varying amounts of
feedbackand the other is whistling with the stock values with the tone dropping to well within the audible with <10 db I think points
to a bad cap. I will investigate and report back although I am away
for a fortnight at the end of the week. I hope to have a look tonight or tommorow. Whatever I find I will report back as some of you may find it useful for future debugging!Thanks,
