You can sub (with different filament voltage) the mil spec 1625 for the 807 as well. The 1625 is a 807 with a 12 volt filament as I recall.The 807 was the tube made popular in early Heath amps (W1) as well as the Musician's Amplifier designed by David Sarser and Melvin Sprinkle in 1949. Sarser & Co. used the 807 triode connected and later offered an article called "gilding the lily" which showed how to use the 807 in the same circuit in Ultra Linear configuration.
