OK, here is my shameless plug for many peoples favorite government whipping boy (besides the various election commissions in a certain state...) the US postal service. My better half runs a e-business selling vintage clothing, photo's and books. Everything goes out via USPS Express Mail. Believe it or not, the service has been basically flawless with no complaints at either end. The cost is competitive with UPS and it has been faster with less hassle. Just a thought for next time anyone needs to ship something. (They took good care of the tubes I send to friends too!)
