No sparks, red plates, etc? Hmm, sounds like a dead heater. Try measuring continuity on the heater pins with a multimeter. If open, try re-soldering the pins. On older NOS octal tubes, many problems can be fixed by resoldering the octals base pins. Otherwise, send it back with its mate, and the dealer can match it to the mate for the replacement tube and send both back to you. Actually, most may be even able to match it given the special numbers usually written on round labels on the top of the tube box.
