a.) If I want to try a different brand of EL34's, do I have to buy 6 tubes all matched ? or can i buy 8 tubes all matched and keep 2 for reserve? You must buy two sets of 3 matched tubes. Matching in a self-biasing amp means that the 3 tubes in series must all have the same idle current, or one may become a current hog and draw excess current, or worse, go runaway. Each side of the amp is independent, so you must have matched trios for each side. If you want spares, they must be in matched trios. If one goes bad, the tube dealer can't match a single tube to the others. You should not,of course, mix brands, as each has different sonics(and physical characteristics).
b.)If say after 6 months, one of the 6 tubes in there goes busted, say 1 tube in the right channel, do i have to replace all three on the right channel with matched tubes? OR I can just replace
that one busted tube in the right channel? Can i buy any brand ? or does it have to be the same as the other two?See above.
c.) When an amp says self-biasing, I should have no problems replacing the current tubes which tubes of my choice right? as long as they are EL34's?
Yes, you can use any matched sets of EL34's. Again, they should be all the same brand. You can't get away from having two sets of matched trios, same brand.
d.) Are Svetlana good EL34's? I currently have the Sovteks I think?
Svetlanas seem to be the best choice among current production EL34's. Better than Sovtek.
e.) Is there also an EL34 EH ? I have EL34's is says made in Russia and the head is flat ? any ideas these are Sovteks ?
The EL34EH is the Electro Harmonix brand EL34. I believe this is simply a branding of Sovtek.
