The Hickok 800, 6000, and 539 all do the same thing. Be sure that your line voltage is adjusted correctly (set it back on the line once the tube has been inserted and has warmed up). Other than that, it seems that pentode output tubes are running a lot of current through the transformer, resulting in the fuse lamp lighting up. Perhaps all of my testers (and yours) are operating improperly, or perhaps that's the way they are supposed to operate. I've tested many, many pentode output tubes over the years with this ocurring, and no apparent ill effects. To my understanding (and please, someone jump in and correct me if I'm wrong), the fuse lamp is just that - a fuse. If you exceed it's rating, it should blow the lamp, saving the rest of the tester from damage. I don't believe that having it "light up" is necessarily a problem. If the "shorts" lamp lights up, that's a different thing, however, and you should stop the test and ditch the tube immediately.BillC
