Hi Adrian,
ta for the comments.I heard the 859 a long time ago with Mozarts, and while it was extremely detailed (not bright), the sound was a little thin - I wouldn't describe it as a 'warm valve sound'.
When I heard the V20 I was actually going to listen to an 869, to see if it was an improvement on the 869. Tonally, I think the 869 and 859 are very similar, and probably not the sound I'm after. The demonstrator had the V20 next to the 869 and said would I like a listen. I heard a couple of bars and though 'this is it'.
It was warmer, (not soggy), and more detailed. The thing that struck me was the size of the sound stage (partic. the depth). It's probably the most expansive sound in a demo I've heard. It was with LS35As and an AVI cd.
Cheers.
