8255 is the American denominator for the E88C.Philips (via various Philips-owned companies), Siemens, Tungsram, RFT, etc. sold it in Europe as E88C whilst Telefunken sold it as 8255 (with <> bottom...).
The E88C is an uprated special quality version of the EC88 - long life, improved tolerances, special cathode treatment to avoid cathode poisoning and keep the noise figure down...
Interesting tube, as it can be easily 'regenerated' once it has lost cathode emission - I have done that many times with tubes found in UHF-TV antenna distribution amplifiers (back in the Seventies, when these still were popular in Europe).
For audio applications, it may be replaced by EC88 or even the PC88 (300mA series heater, Uf about 3.8 V) which tend to be much cheaper.
Take care when using the tube - it was designed for grid base UHF amplifiers up to 850 MHz and requires proper circuit layout to avoid RF oscillation...
