Victor,

I think you misunderstand. If someone chooses to tube swap in ANY piece of equipment, not just your amplifier, then the choices and consequences are between themselves and their tube dealer. Absolutely. Anyone that would buy the wrong tubes for the job, and then put the blame on the manufacturer for failure, is an idiot and a fool. It's the job of the tube roller, and/or his tube supplier, to determine the appropriateness of a given tube for an application via research, surveying other users, etc... Nonetheless, I know there are tube newbies and just plain morons out there that will have a bad NOS tube, then ship the whole amp back to you (BAT in this case) and dump the problem on the manufacturer. "My amp doesn't work anymore, fix it!"--these people are a plague and I empathize with you.

As for the sonic quality of the Sovtek 6SN7, here we will have to agree to disagree. The maddening thing about the Sovteks is that their quality and sonic performance are all over the map. 12AX7's--good. 6AS7's--bad. 6922's--not bad, pretty good actually. 2A3--very good. 300B--getting better. 6SN7--awful.

This isn't just a BAT VK-60 thing. The Sovteks sound terrible in every piece of gear I've ever heard that uses them. It's the tube, not the amp. OTOH, the Sovtek 6922's, there I agree with you that they are acceptable, very linear, and DEAD quiet. You just don't get that with their 6SN7s though.
