Not impossible but not a good sub. Unless you can tell me what kind of circuitry it's been used in there (cathode follower?), otherwise it will not work to your favor.Remember: 12AX7 (ECC83) is a hi-mu tube (100) whereas 12ay7 is a medium-mu tube (around 44) to begin with.
To know more about tubes I advice you to go get a GE tube manual and study them hard.
