I built a Bottlehead Foreplay II pre-amp using magnet wire as supplied. It was a PITA to work with. I don't know what gauge it was but 16 would be very stout indeed and mine isn't quite that thick. I have no idea if it is available, and I didn't buy it to begin with as it came with the kit.
