Much the opposite of my experiences with Japanese tubes.
Although I recently tested some Toshiba 6DJ8's (M3624's - which were almost certainly produced on Philips tooling) and found some that hit the ball outta the park on emissions test, but were borderline to bad in the gain test. Many out of this batch of Toshi's were of unknown provenance, so not sure what conclusions to draw from those results without knowing how they'd been treated before I got them.
I've always had good experiences with Japanese small tubes in the preamp though. Those I mentioned above went into the trash.
