My experience has been and is overall public reputation that most of the Japanese tubes are of poor quality and known for early deaths. That's not to say there might be some diamonds in the rough. I might consider the Mullard japan stuff made on the old tooling. Personally Ive had numerous Japan preamp tubes with problems right out of the box new. Had a group of 12at7 tubes that would all red plate in circuit but pass on a basic tester. I put in just any other brand and they worked fine but the Japan tubes were a fail each.
