I am curious about that Mullard tube, as I was going to recommend some of Philips family 6201 tubes (ValvoMullardAmperex?) as they worked well in my Cary preamp which I think uses the tube in a similar fashion.

The Mullard may not have been of the same type as a 6201. There were all sorts of '12AT7' types made in Europe and I have tried a few-especially Mullard-that were not useful at all. I am wondering if the 'Philips' 6201 tubes would be worth trying?
