Thanks, on a related not about "difference", I changed from EH KT88 to Genelex Gold Lyon KT88 with my own my former Cary SLI-80 amplifier and the difference was notable, immediately, even before burn-in. In that case, it did solve a problem. Not sure on my buddy's amp, in this case.

He might try the Genelex KT77 or KT88 and give it a go. I have read a few place folks commented the KT77s were a little rolled off on the bottom end slightly but very musical and worth it anyhow.
