I just discovered the magic of $14 spent at Walmart. I purchased a 150 piece dremel accessories set which includes a brass wire attachment and a felt attachment. I did not use a dremel, rather my drill. Using the brass wire attachment, I carefully cleaned the pins to "better than new". Then, I finished the job with the felt attachment to give them a polish. I like this solution very much.
