Follow up- my friend returned my VTL MB 250 with a bag of parts...repaired! After listening to Rogue M 180's, Raysonic monos, a Rogue Stereo 100 they were nice but now I am back in audio nirvana. I owe him big time.

Never heard back from Bea Lamm about whether VTL repairs their vintage equipment.
I hear the newer Martin-Logans need less power but I recommend anyone with the early ones somehow get at least 250 tube watts (esp triode) a listen.
