VTL MB-250 help

I have had these fine monoblocks for 12+ years. They were repaired recently and 1 went down again after a short time. The repair person who has been great says the transformer is bad and declines to repair it citing it would be pricey and still unreliable.

I have a friend who repairs old amps as a hobby and willing to give it a shot. I said let's go for it.

I am going to try a set of Rogue M-180's this weekend. I tried a Stereo 100(60 watts triode) and have an MFA D75 I am using now. Nothing controls and makes magic with my SL3's like those 250 triode watts.

Prices are steep for hi watt tube amps 8-10 K for used ones
Any suggestions? Any one have experience with serious restoration of the MB 250's?
I could just give up the ML's but that ain't happening. Thanks!
