I have not measured it, but I reckon loud for me is about 75dB average. Most modern pop records have a dynamic range between 2 and 10dB; genres not engaged in loudness wars 10 to 25dB, or more perhaps.I run a 2W amp into 99(ish)dB speakers - dynamics are fine and it's more than loud enough for me... and roughly what Paul Joppa suggests is enough for most people.
But hey, there are some folks that attempt to recreate loud/amplified live levels in their homes. Thankfully, that's a need I don't have - I wonder what this does to their hearing?
100W, PP pentode amps running gobs negative feedback - yeah, there are speakers out there for them... but they are not for me.
Cheers.
