Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I use a small headphone amp which proudly displays its single tube. The amp is a 'Garage 1217 Project Ember.'
It was engineered to accept a wide variety of small signal tubes. It is intentionally built to placate tube rollers Stock is a Shugie 12AU7. My problem-- It accepts 6SN7s with an adapter. And I love 6SN7s have a fairly sizable collection and like putting them to work. Although this happened with a true Sylvania Bad Boy other tubes behaved like this one.
It has been acting up for a couple weeks now. The adapter has a ceramic socket which seems to be the source of the problem. If I press hard on the tube into the socket everything is good but I am not going to put my fingers on the tube as it gets going. (Laughing emogee) Could it be that the socket just needs some tensioning. If so how do you tension a ceramic socket? I will try a few things in the meanwhile.
Thanks
Note edit It is a Garage 1217 amp not Garage 12.
