Got an email from thetubestore regarding their Black Friday sales. One tube that caught my interest was the Prefered Series 6L6gc. This is a tube made in China to thetubestore's specifications, based on the earlier TAD 6L6gcSTR. On sale now for $18 per tube. That's is less than half the price they are selling the Gold Lion KT66 for.
I have been running the GLs for the past 3 months. They are great tubes! Put the Prefered Series 6L6gc in yesterday and even though they are not fully broken in, I am very impressed! They not quite as extended up top as the GLs (but what is?) but are richer and fuller in the mids, and the bass is rounder but seems just as deep. The sense of space is excellent, this is a big sounding tube! Depth is enhanced, the sound floats free of the speakers. Details are not quite a "spot lit" as the GLs. Not quite as dynamic, a smoother, kinder sound.
If you like 6L6 and your amp can use them, definitely worth a try!
