RE: Confused about the difference between a EL34 and 6ca7

No, they are quite different and do not sound the same at all. The EL34 has a lively sound and will brighten up a system where the 6CA7's sounds more balanced and tight with a better low end. I much prefer the EH 6CA7's, but your experience may be different. It's actually my favorite to run in any stereo amp that takes el34's and has never let me down.
