Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ

RE: How do you organize your tubes?

I keep mine in large cardboard boxes. Each box is assigned a number, written in marker on the side (#1, #2, #3, etc.). Each box also has an index consisting of multiple sheets stapled together that describe the tubes in the box. Each index is inserted under one of the box flaps so it overhangs and can be pulled out for quick review. The indexes consist of long lists with columns indicating Tube Type, Qty, Mfgr, New or Used, Type of Box (if any), and Notes. The latter is used to denote any miscellaneous items of interest, such as coin base, chrome dome, JAN, black plate, etc. Tubes in the list are not in any particular order, usually having been entered by hand in an empty row as I purchased them. Because of this, and because there are so many boxes now (it's inconvenient to find a particular tube, even with indexes), I'm in the process of creating a master Excel sheet. The Excel sheet has all the same columns for description, plus one more that denotes the number of the box the particular tube is in. One advantage to this is that I can sort on the Tube Type column, and that allows me to quickly see how many I have of a particular type, even if they're scattered among three or four boxes.
