A commercial tubed phono preamp will set you back a considerable amount of money. Costs can be contained, if you DIY.
Highly acceptable results can be obtained from Jim Hagerman's Bugle 2, which is opamp based, at a comparatively low cost. Unlike at lot of SS units, the Bugle2 uses passive RIAA EQ and it dodges a lot of sonic flaws in the process. A Bugle2 can be configured to work with just about any available cartridge.
