And the input/driver tubes in the amp were where you could have gains in the soundstage's depth, liquidity, and make the walls disappear.
Same for the preamp in the gain stages.
Output tubes tend to be tone oriented only and two dimensional. I'm sure that others will disagree, but I have yet to roll output tubes and note any difference in the soundstage, but sure can with the little tubes!
