Actually, there are quite a few people here who appreciate the 6CG7. It is generally cheaper than a 6SN7 of equal sonic quality and sounds better than almost any 12AU7. Not that it is an exact equivalent (different base and heater pinout respectively) but it is electrically identical to the 6SN7 and very close (except for filament current draw) to the 12AU7. Where a 12AU7 is heated by 12.6V in series connection, a 12FQ7 can sometimes be a direct replacement (though really good ones are less common than with the 6CG7.)
