RE: Yes you do, but it's always been worth it for me

When I first owned Conrad Johnson Premier 12 monoblocks, CJ was using GE and Philips 6550s, more or less interchangeably (not in the same amps!) I didn't really like either, because they were simply not reliable, at least in my particular pair of amps. I must have had at least half a dozen flame out -- was buying pricy KTK fuses by the box -- and was really relieved when CJ switched to Svetlana 6550s and I never again had output tube problems. I certainly thought the Svetlanas sounded better too but that may have been because I didn't have to worry about their blowing up :-)
