the works to manufacture receiving tubes as opposed to transmitting. Eli
has it. JAN is Joint Army Navy. These were made for the US military. The blackening inside glass is not a sign of wear. This was done in many types including 6L6G GA GB, KT-66, etc. What you describe is bi-plate
construction. The early 2A3 were single plate (mono plate) like a scaled up 45. This type of construction which was also used in the RCA 50 went
by the boards. Less labor intensive manufacture. These are no slouch tubes. Test and enjoy. You can test filament continuity with a simple DVM. They are the larger pair of prongs.
