How much you can hear the difference in rectifiers probably depends on what the whole B+ circuit is. I just did a bit of a shootout and I was hearing little difference between various 5R4GY, 5Y3 and 80. But I have a CLCLCRC circuit for my preamp followed by a CCS and a VR150 glow tube, so I wouldn't expect to hear much difference. I did hear a difference with mesh plate rectifiers, but that's the only difference I thought I could reliably detect on a number of occasions. The rest, all directly heated rectifiers, were much too close. I have a 4P1L preamp in filament bias and a high resolution all-DHT system, so if there was a difference it would not have been masked by the rest of the system. When I do shootouts I respect the null hypothesis - that there may well be no discernable difference.
