From 1969 to about 1983, the date codes are four digits with the first two the year and the second two the month.
So a tube with the code: 8204
= April 1982
Prior to 1969 the they were two digits using letters rather than numbers....the first is the year and second is the month. The months started at A for January, and the year started at A for 1939. The letter to the right of the date code (commonly Z) is the manufactering plant code.
Manufacterer Plant Codes for MO Valve Co./GEC:
L MO Valve Co. (prior to Oct.1951)
P GEC Shaw (prior to Aug.1948)
U MO Valve Co. (prior to Oct.1945)
X MO Valve Co. Springvale (prior to Oct.1951)
Y MO Valve Co. Moray (prior to Apr.1945)
Z MO Valve Co. Hammersmith
ZA MO Valve Co. Gateshead (prior to Mar.1957)
ZB MO Valve Co. Perivale
ZC MO Valve Co. Springvale (prior to Aug.1957)
ZD MO Valve Co. Dover (prior to Dec.1956)
Hope this magic decoder ring helps....
Cheers
