The problem with a 5R4 is it is a high drop, high Z rectifier, suitable more for a preamp than a DHT amp's demands. But, the 5R4 sounds nice, because it is a directly heated rectifier.
Of course, lower Z 5U4's and 5V3s, are also directly heated rectifiers, and out-perform dynamically the 5R4 easily. Paralleling two is cool to listen to !
In addition to a fancy-schmancy 274B (I don't like any of the WE tubes generally) listen to a single 5V3 or a 5V3A in your amp, the A needing only 3 A. of filament current, the earlier 5V3 needing 3.7 to maybe 4 A. of current, and its FUN to behold and hear.
