Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |

I recently took the delivery of a cheap Chinese SE amplifier. It has two 6L6G tubes, two 6N8P tubes (which I subsequently replaced with 6SN7WGT tubes) and one 5Z4P rectifier.
I believe it would be unreasonable to pay $350-$400 for a pair of RCA 6L6GC tubes when the amplifier costs $300.0 incl. shipment, but is there any reason in replacing the 5Z4P tube with its vintage equivalent? Does it influence the sound?
