One could add ICL's to the primary leads of the PS trans. Should help the filaments and caps etc. I think it's just like a light bulb when you turn it on and that's why it fails then. They use them on aircraft landing lights which are very $. I tried a sliding dimmer switch on a bathroom light and got 10 yrs out of a bulb! The cold filament conducts better which makes it flash brighter. A variac will do the same as ICL if you slowly tuned it up. Best to have a switch on the variac to cut it out when up to full power.
