The early 1950's BP Sylvania JAN-JHS 12AX7 is a very good tube. Workhorse, like most US made 12AX7/7025 of that era. Maybe, not as sexy as some mid-1950's-1960's European ECC83, but these US tubes can last and last. Nice consistent tone. Really, if you get a quiet one... you plug the darn thing into the amp and virtually forget about it.
I was lucky enough to buy a gaggle of 1952 Sylvania JAN-JHS in 1990. Back then, all the hip dudes were hunting for "the perfect" TFK, Bugle Boys, or Mullards. So the mil spec, white boxed US made tubes were relatively cheap. Some of those tubes are still in amps that get constantly used and abused. They still sound good. Very predictable response wrt to input parameters. Guitarist's delight.
It's sad that those old square getter Sylvania are so expensive these days. Enjoy them!
