The 12AX7 and 12AU7 type that I've had the most success are the Tungsram ECC83 (1970-80 vintage). And the blackplate CBS-Hytron 5814A or 7318 (1950's). Very hard to find GOOD NOS CBS-Hytrons anymore. Unfortunately, many recent ones on the market labeled "NOS" do not sound good. Same goes for those Tungsol 6X4. I bought a bunch several years ago and was pretty disappointed. If I hadn't used them before with success, I may also have reached a bad conclusion about them.

BTW... the power filter caps are in good shape. Correct?
