Hi iCeFoX,
The pic of that Melos amplifier didn't show up on my browser, do you have any other links?
I obviously don't have any direct experience with unit since I asked this. Is it a pure tube unit, and if so, what type of tubes does it use? Does it run in triode or pentode operation? 200 WPC?
I use ASL Hurricanes on my Magnepan IIIAs, and let me just say a high- powered tube amp and Maggies are magic. You do need some fairly hefty drive to make them come alive however. The damping factor of the amp, and the quality of its OPTs are just as important as the power it's able to deliver into a 4 ohm load. The 100 WPC my amps make in triode mode are plenty to wake the IIIAs up running full range, but it will get slightly congested at louder levels.
I wouldn't be too concerned about service for the Melos (if it is a purely tubed unit,) because unless you blow the power transformer or output transformer, which is highly unlikely unless you seriously abuse it, almost any competent tech (or yourself)can fix minor issues with readily available parts.
