First off I did read many thread on this tube for the power supply section of my SLP-05 which I'd like to roll to a better 'vintage' tube.

I believe Mullards will be too warm for my system if they sound like the Mullard 'house sound' of their other tubes. From what I read (and I'm not by any means an expert on this tube), it seems the Phillips Mini Watt GZ34 is what I should be looking to purchase. I've seen them in a DD version, metal base version and black base version.

What are the sound differences in these 3 versions? Is it worth the money to get a metal base Phillips Mini Watt or is the black base version very close in sound.

I'd appreciate any comments,information or assistance in helping me decide.
