I agree with you. I have always found a good place for them, and their predecessors made by Tesla. Mainly in amps. Nice tone, a bit on the warm side and limited HF extension.
I'll take a pass on the EH's though in sources and pre-amps. Quiet yes, but neutral? Tonally maybe. I tried them in my SP10II and a Raysonic CDP and I found the mids thru upper bass thick and muddy when playing discs with very well recorded complex music, mainly classical. Not as apparent with jazz and pop, just sounds like it could be a recording with a better low end. I haven't tried them in amps yet. FWIW. For reference, in newer production 6dj8/6922's I usually find I like the EI's in most sources and pre-amps (wish they would work in my SP10!).
