I've got the Prologue 2 and didn't 100% like the KT-88's I tried either. I ran the SED EL34's for a long time and liked them a lot, great tubes. I agree the 34 has a little more meat on the bones. I'm running the SED 6L6GC's now and find them equally satisfying. Soundstage is a lot bigger, midrange is nice, but not as buttery as the 34.
