RE: JAN Sylvania 5687 & 5 Star 5670

The Jan tubes that are specifically Sylvanias sound very good in my system. I have a couple 1970s 5687s like the ones you describe and used them in an input tube position in my power amps.
Even though they worked well beyond my expectations -serving that function- I had to roll them. A few minutes of research of this forum yielded a couple of NOS standouts.
The Tung Sol appears to have been the initial maker and has a loyal following . I think the T.S. were the first made in the early 1950s. I sought tubes (new condition if not true NOS), of that vintage. I can't claim a huge difference in sonics between the T.S. and the much less costly JANs, I use them anyway because I think they present a slightly and I mean very slightly bigger soundstage.
The others were 1960s Sylvania gold pins and early Raytheon. The Sylvanias gold pin appear to be very popular.
