RE: 6F6GT

Yes I have!!! and they are sweeettt!

Built a Push-Pull amplifier based on the "1946 Olson Amp" schematic.

Personally this is probably the best sounding DIY amplifier I have ever made. Unfortunately, I have never been able to gather enough US NOS 6F6GT tubes together, have one or two of them, need 8.

I currently use Russian 6F6G tubes with stellar results. Also have used 6F6 Metal tubes that sound remarkably good, I have 2 dozen as backups.

I recently lent this amp to a friend for the first time ever. He connected it to his Supratek preamp, his jaw hit the floor. He said it sounded better than my 2A3 Kismet and my KT88 Dynaclone Monoblocks combined.

There's something about that schematic that called my name....

No special parts were used, only a Jensed PIO input cap. The rest were run of the mill Carbon Comp and Metal Oxides. Caps are Nichicon Poly's and Power Supply a combo of Angela Fast Caps and Spague Atoms. Rectifier uses twin 5V4 tubes (Amperex).

You can check out the actual Aurora amp on my web site at:

Scroll 1/2 way down.

I used Hammond Transformers throughout so it's a snap to duplicate. A fellow in the UK built one using the same Hammond but with a universal primary. Have not heard back from Jim, maybe he turned into a 6F6 tube :)

You will see that this is a classic Push Pull design with no global feedback. Very lush and layered mids, plenty of low end and open high's, almost OTL like.

6F6 is a very dynamic sounding tube originally designed for radio amps and automobile service.

Bye,
Rich
