Oddly enough, I've had a few amps do what you describe when the weather became suddenly hot or cold. It may have to do with thermal expansion of metal, wrt ambient temps. (WAG).
Anyways, try remvoing the tubes and using contact cleaner on the pins and sockets. Remove and insert tubes a couple of times and see if this makes the connection more uniform.
