It was common on the older St.Petersburg made tubes.
BTW, looking at the box in your pic, it appears you bought the New Sensor Svetlanas, which is not the same tube as the SED or "winged C" which are the St. Petersburg made tubes that USED to be known as Svetlana in the USA. But regardless, black getters are far from unusual.
