I think i got mine at Virginia Tube Audio. It's a nice tube. I haven't used the coke bottle 6L6GC.
6L6s's have gotten a reputation for being fast and detailed vs. balanced and smooth. But when I compare them to JJ KT77s, there are no night and day differences, just a slightly different presentation that i won't break down into parts.
The thing i listen to is the overall presentation without being too finicky about the details of it all. For me, it's come down to just three tubes that reflect my range of sound preferences and play the music i like best very well: JJ KT77, JJ 6L6GC, and the Tung-Sol.
I haven't tried the 6550 in any version, but I have some Russian military tubes on the way for like $29 a quad. We'll see.
