Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
I just got a brand new, matched pair of Svetlana KT88s. One of them has a very noticeably black getter burst. I thought this was usually indicative of a tube being overheated, and whitish getters mean there's been air introduced in the envelope.
I got these from a reputable source, and they assured me that "this is a variation of individual manufacturing, and is just fine." If nothing else, this is a cosmetic flaw for an amp with exposed tubes. I've never had any tubes with this type of discolored getter.
I wrote them back last night, and haven't heard a word back all day (Friday.) Opinions?
