The third mica spacer is normally between the mica spacer on the top of the plate structure and the getter halo. The third mica spacer locks the getter halo, and its cantilevered support rod, in place and stiffens the entire getter structure. Supposedly this arrangement reduces microphonics, and it makes sense that it should.
